Job summary

Hearst Television’s WCVB in Needham, MA is seeking a Freelance Broadcast Operations Technician to support live newscasts, studio productions, and on-air signals across multiple platforms. You’ll work hands-on in-studio and on-location, operating key systems and ensuring broadcast continuity under tight deadlines.

You will report to the Technical Operations Manager, collaborate with control room staff, ENG teams, and remote production crews, and prepare equipment for high-profile live events

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in a broadcast operations role at a TV station or similar setting.
• Strong understanding of broadcast signal flow, production switchers, audio consoles, and control room systems.
• Ability to thrive in a live, deadline-driven environment.
• Willingness to work non-standard hours including early mornings, late nights, overnights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Operate in-studio and on-location technical systems, including robotic cameras, audio mixing, and TD.
• Execute Master Control and Air Assist to maintain broadcast continuity across platforms.
• Manage ENG signal acquisition and distribution for live and recorded content.
• Provide floor direction and technical support during studio and remote productions.
• Set up and maintain studio and remote production equipment, including lighting and props.
• Monitor and program studio lighting via GrandMA.
• Wire and place microphones and IFBs for on-camera talent and guests.
• Use computers and digital tools for downloading materials and multimedia tasks.
• Support various technical and production needs as assigned by the Technical Operations Manager.
