Hearst Communications, Inc. in Needham, MA is seeking a Freelance Broadcast Operations Technician to ensure seamless delivery of live newscasts, studio productions, and on-air signals across platforms.

This hands-on, fast-paced role requires precision, teamwork, and strong technical know-how in control rooms and remote productions. You will operate key systems, execute Master Control and Air Assist, manage ENG feeds, provide floor direction, and set up equipment for studio and remote shoots

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience as an Operations Technician or similar role in a TV station.
• Strong understanding of broadcast signal flow, production switchers, audio consoles, and control room systems.
• Thrives in a live, deadline-driven broadcast environment.
• Flexibility to work early mornings, late nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
• Military broadcast or technical experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Operate in-studio and on-location, including robotic cameras, audio mixing, and technical directing.
• Execute Master Control and Air Assist functions to maintain broadcast continuity.
• Manage ENG signal acquisition and distribution for high-quality feeds.
• Provide floor direction and technical support during studio and remote productions.
• Set up, move, and maintain studio and remote production equipment (lighting, props, sets).
• Monitor and program studio lighting via GrandMA.
• Wire and place microphones and IFBs for on-camera talent and guests.
• Use computers and digital tools for downloading materials and multimedia tasks.
• Support various technical and production needs as assigned by the Technical Operations Manager.
