Framer- Fine Art Framing

Full Time Austin, TX, US

8 days ago Requisition ID: 1133

Salary Range: $20.00 To $25.00 Hourly

About the Role: Marco Fine Arts is a premier fine art framing and fulfillment company serving galleries, artists, and trade clients nationwide. We are seeking an experienced Senior Framer to join our production team as a craft leader, bringing exceptional technical skill, deep materials knowledge, and the ability to mentor and hold standards across the framing team.

This role focuses on all stages of framing from the point of assembly forward: fitting, mounting, glazing, finishing, and quality review. The Senior Framer is not responsible for the cut and join stage but plays a critical role in confirming that dimensions are correct before work proceeds, providing technical guidance to the cut team, and holding accountability when specifications are off. Materials are selected in partnership with the sales team and client, but the Senior Framer is expected to raise concerns when a specified build or material combination could present problems for the finished product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assembly, Fitting & Finishing
  • Execute all framing stages beyond cut and join, including fitting, mounting, glazing, and finishing
  • Complete assigned orders accurately and on time, with awareness of ship dates and production priorities
  • Review incoming dimensions prior to assembly and confirm accuracy against build specifications
  • Provide technical guidance to the cut team on measurements, tolerances, and build requirements
  • Flag and escalat... ??? specification errors before they reach the assembly stage
  • Handle oversized and large-format work including multi-panel pieces and non-standard substrates
  • Perform quality control review on all finished pieces prior to shipment

Materials & Build Integrity

  • Review build specifications for potential issues before work begins
  • Communicate clearly with the sales team when a specified material or build approach could compromise the finished product
  • Apply working knowledge of conservation and museum-grade materials, including appropriate glazing, mounting, and acid-free components
  • Maintain organized, safe, and well-stocked workstation and shared floor areas
  • Serve as the floor-level technical authority for framing craft, quality, and production standards
  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level framers on technique, fitting, and quality expectations
  • Partner with the Production Manager on workflow prioritization and team capacity.

Support team members with hands‑on guidance as needed, including during staffing transitions

  • Contribute to the development of production SOPs and build documentation
  • Maintain awareness of the broader production flow, including how work moves across stations, and proactively flag handoff issues, bottlenecks, or quality risks observed beyond your immediate scope
  • Take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks. When something leaves your hands incorrectly or comes back with an issue, own the follow-through
  • Communicate proactively across teams when problems arise. Raise concerns early, directly, and clearly rather than allowing issues to surface downstream

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of professional framing experience, with demonstrated senior-level skill in fitting, assembly, and finishing
  • Strong ability to read and interpret build sheets and confirm dimensional accuracy
  • Experience with bespoke and custom framing of fine art, including high-value and fragile works
  • Proven capability with large-format and oversized framing
  • Working knowledge of conservation and museum-grade materials (UV-protective glazing, acid-free mats, archival mounting)
  • Experience in a fine art gallery, museum, or high-end framing or fulfillment environment
  • Ability to communicate technical concerns clearly and professionally across teams
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to zero-defect quality standards

Preferred

  • Experience in a production or fulfillment environment with throughput expectations
  • Prior experience providing guidance or informal training to other framers
  • Familiarity with SOP documentation or participation in process improvement efforts

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, on‑site position in Austin, TX
  • Primary work is within the Bespoke framing line. As a production facility, all team members may be asked to support other areas of the floor as business needs require. Flexibility and a team‑first attitude are expected.
  • Physical role requiring standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs., and handling large and fragile artwork
