Job description

Mentors will be available as a source of professional support for administrators of the Fall River Public Schools. Their support is correlates with the vision that our community and schools want to build capacity, inspires leaders, and models integrity. As a mentor, your responsibility is to provide guidance and support to your mentee based on their position and their specific developmental needs.

Qualifications
  • Appropriate Licensure for the mentee’s position
  • Specific experience in the position of the mentee
  • Satisfactory record of performance and evaluation
Responsibilities
  • As a Coach or Advisor: Give guidance, advice and suggestions, sharing ideas, and offering feedback
  • As a resource for Support and Encouragement: You will be a resource and thought partner for ideas, concerns regarding school situations and career steps, discussing insights and possible opportunities
  • As a Resource for Development: Suggest or connect the mentee with resources to build professional development and growth, connecting them with networking opportunities
  • As an Advocate: Advocating for your mentee whenever necessary or the opportunity is available
  • Act as a though partner, presenting different perspectives: Assist in thinking through decisions and strategies, presenting experiences and offering perspectives and potential issues.
Duties and Expectations
  • Build a supportive, confidential, non-evaluative relationship with the mentee
  • Meet regularly and consistently, using a log or journal to capture your exchanges.
  • Assist with preparing for the pace and timeline for the school year.
  • Review and discuss behavioral expectations.
  • Be a resource for procedures, materials, and explaining school culture.
  • Prepare the mentee for their evaluation process.
  • Do observations for their benefit informally to provide helpful feedback.
  • Make peer observations (non-evaluative) with their mentee, have them observe you as well.
  • Schedule regular meetings at a convenient place with the mentee.
  • Record meetings in a log with topics covered, and perform a written reflection on the work.
  • Complete the end-of-year feedback survey about the Mentoring Program.
Application and Selection Process
  • Candidates will be selected that match the role and needs of the mentee. Direct experience in the role of the mentee is a priority.
  • Tier 1 Mentors will receive $1500 for a 1:1 mentoring experience for first time administrators
  • Tier 1 mentors will work 28 hours.
  • Tier 2 mentors will receive $1000 for group mentoring (up to four protégés) for mentors beyond their first year or new to the district.
  • Tier 2 mentors will work 18 hours
