FP&A Manager – R&D

Compensation: $85–$98/hour

We are seeking an experienced FP&A Manager to support an R&D Finance organization in Sunnyvale. This is a highly visible, hands‑on finance leadership opportunity supporting R&D and Finance leadership across financial planning, forecasting, reporting, business analysis, and finance transformation.

The ideal candidate will bring Manager or Senior Manager‑level experience within a corporate FP&A or finance organization and will be comfortable operating independently while partnering closely with senior business and finance leaders.

This role is designed for an experienced finance professional who can take ownership of complex financial matters, influence business decisions, manage competing priorities, and translate financial and operational data into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.

The position is initially structured as a contract role with the potential to transition into a permanent management position.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and management reporting activities across the P&L and balance sheet.
• Serve as a senior finance partner to R&D and Finance leadership, providing actionable financial insights to support strategic and operational decisions.
• Develop financial models, scenario analyses, and executive‑level reporting to explain performance, risks, opportunities, and key business drivers.
• Independently own complex financial analyses and provide clear recommendations with limited supervision.
• Partner with R&D and cross‑functional leaders on financial planning, resource allocation, business cases, and strategic decision support.
• Improve recurring finance processes by simplifying workflows, strengthening controls, and reducing manual effort.
• Build and maintain scalable reporting and planning solutions using advanced Excel, Power Query, PivotTables, and other automation tools.
• Use Power BI and related analytical tools to enhance reporting, visualization, and transparency.
• Support finance transformation initiatives that improve the quality, speed, and consistency of financial information.
• Work across functions to align financial assumptions, resolve data issues, and improve planning and reporting processes.
• Communicate complex financial information clearly to finance and non‑finance stakeholders, including senior leadership.
• Influence decisions and drive change through financial insight, strong business partnership, and effective stakeholder management.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or a related finance discipline.
• Prior experience at the Finance Manager, Senior Manager, or equivalent level.
• Strong understanding of P&L, balance sheet, budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and management reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgment in complex business situations.
• Experience partnering with senior finance and business leaders.
• Experience reporting to or working closely with a VP of Finance, CFO, or comparable senior finance executive.
• Demonstrated experience improving financial processes and developing scalable reporting or planning solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify business drivers and translate analysis into practical recommendations.
• Proven ability to communicate with and influence senior stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting R&D, life sciences, medical devices, diagnostics, technology, or another complex product‑development environment.
• Experience with Power BI, including dashboard development, data modeling, and financial reporting.
• Prior experience in a Big Four firm or another demanding, highly analytical environment.
• CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant professional qualification.
• Experience supporting finance transformation, reporting automation, or system and process improvement initiatives.
• Experience in a corporate environment with significant cross‑functional interaction and exposure to senior leadership.
