Job description

Location

Houston, TX area - onsite at headquarters/plant, with occasional travel to a secondary facility. Initially 5 days onsite, moving to 4 days once ramped up.

About the Company

A privately held manufacturer based in the Houston area, producing custom building and infrastructure products for the construction and industrial sectors. Its products support energy, utility, industrial, and other commercial applications. The company has grown steadily and now operates from multiple locations.

It's known for a strong culture built around responsiveness, accountability, problem-solving, and teamwork, with a collaborative, high-energy environment where high performers thrive.

Team Structure
  • CFO - an exceptional leader who genuinely values his team and invests in people eager to learn, develop, and grow. Has already accomplished a great deal in his first year with the company.
  • President
  • Controller
  • 2 direct reports, offshore
About This Role

The position is open due to a planned change, and the company is being intentional about finding someone who aligns with leadership style, culture, and expectations - a strong long-term fit rather than just a resume match.

Responsibilities
  • Leads the annual budgeting cycle from start to finish - assumptions, model build, review rounds, and the final walkthrough with leadership
  • Keeps a rolling forecast current at each month-end close, tied back to actual results
  • Owns the 13-week cash forecast, coordinating with Accounting on receivables/payables and with the CFO on treasury calls
  • Builds out longer-range planning models and runs scenario/sensitivity work across revenue, margin, expenses, and cash
  • Models the financial case behind capital investments, facility upgrades, and equipment purchases
  • Tracks actual spend against approved budgets on a regular cadence and surfaces cost overruns early, before they become a surprise
  • Contributes to financial modeling for acquisitions and integration planning when those opportunities arise
  • Owns the monthly reporting package delivered to leadership, including variance analysis that explains the "why" and recommends next steps, not just what happened
  • Builds dashboards and reporting tools so leadership and plant managers have ongoing visibility without a manual report each month
  • Sets up and tracks KPIs across facilities
  • Works closely with Operations, Estimating, and Sales to build profitability views at the job, product, and customer level
  • Digs into manufacturing cost performance - actual vs. standard, labor and overhead absorption, per-job delivery costs - and leads cross-functional efforts to run down unexplained variances
  • Compares finished job costs back to original estimates and shares findings with Estimating to sharpen future bids
  • Supports pricing and bid work with solid cost data
  • Partners with Business Excellence to improve the underlying data that job-level margin reporting depends on
  • Manages and develops an offshore analyst team - setting priorities, reviewing output, and holding a clear bar for quality and turnaround
  • Drives automation across planning and reporting workflows, including through AI tools
  • Documents FP&A processes so institutional knowledge isn't tied to one person
  • Takes ownership of the company's incentive plan model and its quarterly calculations as the role matures
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or another quantitative field
  • 5+ years of FP&A experience with a track record of increasing responsibility, including having owned a budget or forecast cycle start to finish
  • Strong Excel skills - comfortable building a financial model from scratch, not just working off an existing template
  • Power BI familiarity is a strong plus
  • Prior use of AI tools in a finance or analytical capacity is a strong plus
  • Must have manufacturing or project-based construction industry expereince
