Hedge is hiring a founding underwriter in San Francisco to scale risk judgment into repeatable systems and processes. You will evaluate commercial risks, structure submissions, and collaborate with agencies to close information gaps.

The role offers meaningful equity and the opportunity to define how underwriting works as Hedge scales. You will own underwriting decisions for defined segments, refine placement quality, and help build a scalable underwriting function with strong economics within

Qualifications

• Three+ years of commercial underwriting or related placement experience.
• Ability to translate tacit knowledge into repeatable processes.
• Comfort with ambiguity and making decisions with limited information.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate commercial risks, exposures, controls, and submission quality.
• Match risks to carrier, MGA, and program appetite.
• Collaborate with agencies and brokers to close information gaps and structure submissions.
• Negotiate terms and clearly communicate coverage, conditions, and tradeoffs.
• Build underwriting guidelines, decision tools, and feedback loops into Hedge's platform.
• Track outcomes and improve risk selection, turnaround time, and placement quality.
