Job summary

MistralMistral seeks a founding Engineering Team Lead for storage on our cloud. You will build the storage stack (block, file, object) and drive capacity planning across datacenters, while directly hiring and mentoring the first engineers.

You will decide what to build or buy, and develop in Go, shaping a durable, enterprise-grade storage layer for training runs and general compute. This is a hands-on leadership role with strategic impact.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of real people leadership: hired, coached, and grown engineers.
• Built storage systems (object/block/distributed FS) and understand failure modes.
• Deep distributed-systems fundamentals: durability, replication, erasure coding, failure domains.
• Shipped production Go services; comfortable writing Go daily.
• Familiar with HDD, SSD, NVMe tiering and storage economics.

Responsibilities

• Stand up the storage stack — block, file, object — for training and compute workloads.
• Make build-vs-buy decisions; deploy vendor platforms where suitable; write core services in Go.
• Own the data plane: allocation, duplication, tiering, backup and recovery, S3-compatible APIs.
• Plan capacity across datacenters and failure domains—petabytes scale.
• Build the team from zero: hire, onboard, coach, and set growth paths; define ownership standards.
• Partner with Product Managers to shape the storage roadmap and tradeoffs.
