Job summary

Perplexity is seeking an experienced Storage Platform Engineer to design and operate a scalable storage infrastructure powering all Perplexity products and AI workloads. You will own reliability, performance, and availability, while shaping storage abstractions and APIs for broad product use.

In this role you will partner with AI, infra, and product teams to meet low-latency, high-throughput requirements and lead capacity planning for storage clusters across the company.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating large-scale backend or infrastructure systems in production.
• Deep hands-on experience with at least one major database technology (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, DynamoDB, Cassandra).
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, data modeling, and performance optimization for high-throughput, low-latency workloads.
• Proven end-to-end ownership of services including design, implementation, deployment, and on-call.
• Proficiency in backend languages (Go, Rust, or Python).
• Effective communication and collaboration across product, infra, and AI teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate, and continuously improve the storage platform underpinning Perplexity products and AI workloads.
• Own reliability, performance, and availability SLOs for stateful systems and drive root cause analysis.
• Define and evolve storage abstractions, APIs, and tooling for scalable storage use across teams.
• Partner with AI, infra, and product teams to meet low-latency and high-throughput requirements.
• Lead capacity planning, benchmarking, and lifecycle management for storage clusters.
