Job summary

Discord is hiring a Staff Engineer for the Enterprise Technology org to define a new software engineering discipline and build a self-service platform. You will replace manual consoles with reusable, API-driven primitives that automate device provisioning, identity management, and infrastructure workflows.

You will lead the design of scalable, secure, and observable systems, authored in Python, TypeScript and Rust, with Terraform-based IAM and device tooling.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building and operating production software and systems at a technology company.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals. You write production code (we lean on Python, TypeScript and Rust).
• Deep, hands-on IAM experience (SSO, SCIM, OAuth/OIDC, RBAC) and fluency with infrastructure as code (Terraform).

Responsibilities

• Manage the device fleet as code: move device configuration into versioned API-driven infra.
• Automate the identity layer: manage identity systems as code, from SSO/SCIM integrations to workflows.
• Own app delivery and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): build deployment pipelines and provisioning patterns.
• Build the self-service layer: design and ship APIs, CLIs, and portals for automated, auditable flows.
• Set the foundation: define technical direction and architecture with RFCs and documentation.
