Job summary

Discord's Enterprise Technology org is building a software engineering discipline from the ground up, and this is the founding engineering hire. You will define the discipline, set the technical foundation, and build the platform that lets internal systems scale with the company.

As a code-forward Staff engineer, you will design abstractions that hide the messy reality of Okta, Jamf, and Terraform behind interfaces people actually want to use, operating with a platform-as-a-product mindset.

Qualifications

• Six or more years building and operating production software and systems.
• Proficient in Python, TypeScript and Rust; production-grade software design.
• Hands-on IAM experience (SSO, SCIM, OAuth/OIDC, RBAC) and IaC.
• Experience treating fleet management as an API-driven surface at scale.
• Platform-as-a-product mindset with self-service tooling adoption.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a founder's temperament; building from scratch.

Responsibilities

• Manage device fleet as code with versioned, API-driven infrastructure.
• Automate identity layer from SSO to downstream apps via code and CI/CD.
• Own deployment pipelines and provisioning patterns with IaC standards.
• Build self-service APIs, CLIs, and portals for automated onboarding and access.
• Define technical direction and architecture; write RFCs and docs.
