Axia Medicine is looking for a Founding Staff Engineer, a key member of the leadership team who will lead the development of our Precision Medicine platform from inception.

Role Overview

As a Staff Engineer at Axia Medicine, you will play a critical role in shaping the architecture and development of our Platform. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists, and healthcare professionals to design, build, and scale our platform, ensuring it meets high standards of performance, security, and reliability. Your expertise will directly contribute to advancing Precision Medicine and enabling groundbreaking research.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the design and hands-on development of scalable, high-performance software solutions for the Platform.
2. Define technical requirements and ensure alignment with the overall product vision and business goals.
3. Architect and implement robust data pipelines to manage and process multi-omics and clinical data.
4. Integrate AI and machine learning algorithms into the platform to support data intake and input validation.
5. Ensure the security and privacy of patient data, adhering to regulatory standards and best practices.
6. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
7. Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and contribute to the overall improvement of engineering practices.
8. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in health tech, precision medicine, and data science.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
2. 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on building scalable, data-intensive applications.
3. Proven experience in leading technical projects and teams in a fast-paced startup environment.
4. Strong experience with AWS, especially in Data and Security services.
5. A strong opinion about the integration of Omics data with other data types.
6. Expertise in designing and implementing data architectures, including experience with big data technologies and distributed databases.
7. Familiarity with AI and machine learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, LangChain).
8. Deep understanding of data privacy and security standards, particularly in the healthcare domain (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
9. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
10. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a passion for mentoring and knowledge sharing.

As a founding employee, you'll be in a position of great responsibility and ownership, with commensurate equity compensation. The overall package will be determined based on the successful candidate's profile.
