Job summary

a16z-speedrun is seeking an experienced systems software engineer to help build Munari’s edge runtime that runs next to or inside robotic systems. The role spans kernel interactions, hardware interfaces, real-time constraints, networking, and distributed systems.

You will optimize for performance, ensure reliability, and enable offline operation with robust diagnostics. This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy turning complex software into a compact, dependable runtime.

Qualifications

Proficient in C/C++ or Rust with strong Linux systems knowledge.
Experience debugging across userspace, kernel, drivers, and hardware.
Embedded or robotics software experience on resource-constrained platforms.
Familiarity with real-time constraints and performance profiling.

Responsibilities

Architect and build a portable edge runtime for ARM, x86, NVIDIA Jetson, and industrial compute platforms.
Capture, synchronize, buffer, and transmit video, sensor, telemetry, and policy data with minimal overhead.
Integrate Munari with Linux, ROS 2, DDS, cameras, sensors, motor controllers, field buses, and robot software.
Build local execution for models, policies, anomaly detection, event triggers, and automated failure capture.
Design device identity, configuration, secure updates, rollback, remote diagnostics, and fleet-wide runtime management.
Build for failure: watchdogs, crash recovery, safe degradation, offline operation, fault injection, diagnosability.
