Job summary

Toast is hiring its first Bookkeepers on the Financial Management team in Boston. You will own end-to-end bookkeeping for pilot restaurant customers, including CO𝐆S, prime cost, and tip reporting, while partnering with product and engineering to define tooling and workflows.

This founder-level role requires comfort with ambiguity and building processes from the ground up. You will work on-site 2 days per week at the Seaport Boston office, contribute to SOP design, and help establish scalable

Qualifications

• 5+ years of bookkeeping experience, with restaurant or hospitality clients preferred.
• Deep knowledge of restaurant accounting mechanics: COGS, prime cost, tip reporting, multi-location consolidation.
• Fluency with modern bookkeeping software and openness to new tools including AI.
• Entrepreneurial track record building processes or services from scratch.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end bookkeeping for pilot restaurant customers: chart of accounts, monthly close, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Serve as Toast's in-house expert on restaurant accounting and reporting.
• Collaborate with product and engineering to shape tooling and workflows.
• Design SOPs, controls, and QA processes for a new bookkeeping function.
• Work with restaurant operators to understand business needs and deliver trusted service.
• Help define future hiring, tooling, and automation strategies.
