Job summary

Toast is hiring its first Bookkeepers on the Financial Management team to handle the books for our earliest restaurant customers. You will help shape the service, tooling, and workflows that will allow Toast to deliver bookkeeping at scale, partnering with product and engineering to define requirements and success metrics.

This hands-on, founding role requires deep restaurant accounting knowledge and a mindset for building from scratch.

Qualifications

• 5+ years bookkeeping experience, with restaurant/hospitality focus.
• Deep knowledge of restaurant accounting mechanics: COGS, prime cost, tip reporting, multi-location consolidation.
• Experience building a process or practice from scratch.
• Comfort with ambiguity and undefined scope; able to help define a role.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end bookkeeping for pilot restaurant customers, including setup, close, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Serve as Toast's in-house expert on restaurant accounting and reporting.
• Embed with product and engineering to translate client workflows into product requirements.
• Design SOPs, controls, and QA processes for a scalable bookkeeping function.
