About the Role
As the Founding Membership Director, you will lead Municipal's membership growth strategy and sales execution while ensuring every prospective and current member experiences genuine, premium hospitality. You will build and coach the membership team, establish disciplined sales rhythms, and create repeatable practices that support the founding gym today and future locations as the brand grows. This role owns membership performance from lead generation through enrollment, onboarding, and early member engagement, while partnering closely with Operations and Personal Training to create a seamless member journey.

Key Outcomes: First 6-12 Months
- Build, onboard, and develop a high-performing membership team with clear expectations, strong product knowledge, and consistent sales and hospitality standards.
- Deliver membership growth and revenue goals through disciplined lead management, outreach, referral generation, tours, follow-up, and conversion.
- Establish daily, weekly, and monthly sales operating rhythms, dashboards, and coaching routines that create visibility and accountability.
- Create a premium, consistent prospect-to-member experience that strengthens conversion, onboarding, satisfaction, and retention.
Core Responsibilities
- Own the membership sales plan and department results, translating gym goals into clear team priorities and daily activity expectations.
- Lead lead-generation, prospecting, referral, outreach, tour, follow-up, and enrollment practices with disciplined execution.
- Monitor pipeline health, conversion, production, and pacing; identify performance gaps early and coach the team toward corrective action.
- Partner with the General Manager on pricing, promotions, local partnerships, and launch or growth strategies.
Member Experience & Brand Execution
- Ensure each tour and sales interaction reflects Municipal's premium positioning, hospitality expectations, and commitment to helping members WIN THE DAY, TODAY.
- Create a coordinated handoff from enrollment to onboarding, service, and fitness so new members feel known, supported, and confident using the gym.
- Use prospect and member feedback to improve sales practices, remove friction, and strengthen the overall member journey.
- Serve as a visible floor leader who builds relationships, resolves concerns, and protects trust in the Municipal brand.
Leadership & Talent
- Recruit, select, onboard, coach, and retain the Membership Manager and Membership Specialists.
- Set clear goals, conduct regular one-on-ones and team huddles, recognize strong performance, and address missed expectations quickly and respectfully.
- Develop the Membership Manager to lead weekend execution and maintain standards when the Director is not present.
- Build bench strength and document scalable practices that can support future Municipal locations.
Business Discipline & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Manage membership staffing, scheduling, commission-related processes, and controllable expenses responsibly.
- Maintain accurate CRM activity, reporting, documentation, and sales controls in accordance with company expectations.
- Partner closely with Operations and Personal Training leaders on events, member engagement, lead sharing, service recovery, and retention.
- Run a safe, ethical, and compliant sales operation by consistently following company policies and approved practices.
KPIs / Scorecard Examples
- Growth - New memberships, membership revenue, net member growth, and referral production
- Sales Execution - Lead response, appointments, show rate, tour-to-sale conversion, and pipeline follow-up
- Member Experience - New-member onboarding completion, early engagement, feedback, and service recovery
- People & Leadership - Team productivity, staffing stability, coaching completion, and bench strength
- Business Discipline - Pacing accuracy, CRM activity quality, labor management, and commission administration
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive sales experience, including leadership responsibility for a team and measurable business results.
- Demonstrated ability to build sales routines, coach performance, manage a pipeline, and use data to improve results.
- Strong people leadership skills, including hiring, onboarding, setting expectations, recognition, and accountability.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to connect with prospects, members, team members, and community partners.
- Comfortable using CRM systems, dashboards, reports, and Microsoft Office tools to organize work and communicate performance.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in premium fitness, hospitality, private clubs, wellness, luxury retail, or another high-touch membership environment.
- Experience opening a new location, launching a new sales team, or establishing scalable sales practices.
Role Requirements
- Full-time leadership role with availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and key business events as needed.
- Regular computer and phone-based work is required.
- Ability to move throughout the gym, conduct tours, stand for extended periods, and occasionally lift or move approximately 40 pounds.
- Must satisfy all company pre-employment and ongoing employment requirements.
Compensation:
$100,000 base salary plus a 20% annual bonus opportunity and commission
