Job summary

Rnb Consultancy in New York seeks an early-career backend engineer to own entire systems from day one, collaborating with the CTO and visiting schools regularly. On-site in New York, you will design the backend architecture across legacy data sources and build reliable integrations using scraping and browser automation.

Early in your career, sharp on backend, and ready to own whole systems? Start here.

A fast-growing startup in New York builds software for K-12 education. In its first year it went from zero to dozens of school districts, and it works directly with the schools that use it. You'd be the first full-time engineer, designing the architecture together with the CTO and owning complete systems from day one.

What you'll own

• Backend architecture across messy, legacy school data sources that don't come with a clean API
• Integrations built with scraping, browser automation and sync jobs, and making them reliable
• Making things robust: retry logic, queues and the race conditions in between
• Whole systems end to end, plus regular visits to schools

Must-haves

• Your strength is backend and system design, more than front end
• You reason clearly out loud and speak fluent English. The live interview is a spoken system design.
• You welcome very direct feedback
• On-site in New York, daily
• Roughly 1–5 years of experience; early-career engineers are preferred

Bonus points

• Hackathon wins or side projects you shipped
• Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium or other browser automation
• Node, TypeScript or Firebase; mobile system APIs (Flutter, iOS, Android) are a plus
• Experience with school systems or ed-tech
