Job description

Chalk is building the data platform that powers the future of machine learning applications. We tear down complexity, latency, and scale barriers that have traditionally constrained ML capabilities. Our platform combines Rust-speed performance with elegant tools that developers love to use. Leading companies depend on Chalk for everything from stopping fraudulent credit card swipes, verifying identities, and maximizing clean energy capture.

About the role

As Chalk’s Founding Brand Designer, you’ll be the creative engine behind our visual identity. From high-conviction brand evolutions to everyday marketing assets, you’ll shape how Chalk shows up across every surface—web, campaigns, events, social, and beyond.

You’ll work closely with GTM, developer advocacy, and product teams to bring technical stories to life in visually compelling, consistent ways. This is a high-ownership role with the opportunity to set creative direction, establish scalable systems, and build a generational brand.

We work in-person Monday through Friday in our SF office. We don’t currently offer remote or hybrid positions.

What you will do

  • Define and evolve Chalk’s brand across digital, print, web, social, content, and event surfaces
  • Design marketing collateral including decks, one-pagers, blog visuals, paid ads, and event materials
  • Lead creative direction for Chalk’s website—working with engineers or agency partners to build and launch
  • Partner with product and UX designers to ensure a seamless, consistent experience across the full customer lifecycle
  • Collaborate with developer advocacy to turn complex technical concepts into accessible, high-impact visuals
  • Manage external vendors and freelancers to expand capacity while maintaining creative quality
  • Build and maintain a scalable design system that keeps Chalk consistent and differentiated

What we’re Looking For

  • 4–7+ years of experience in brand, visual, or marketing design—ideally in B2B SaaS, dev tools, or AI/infra
  • A portfolio that shows world-class craft, storytelling, and a distinct point of view
  • Experience owning and executing creative across web, content, campaigns, and digital media
  • Strong collaboration skills across growth, product, comms, and UX
  • Familiarity with UX workflows and the ability to think across the entire user journey
  • Excellent taste and systems thinking—layout, type, color, hierarchy, and brand cohesion
  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe CC; motion or illustration skills are a plus
  • Ability to move quickly, ship thoughtfully, and iterate often

Bonus Points

  • Experience at or with top-tier startups in the developer or ML/AI ecosystem
  • You’ve helped build or evolve a brand system at a high-growth company
  • You’ve worked with technical or developer-first audiences and understand what resonates
