Job summary

Zania is hiring a Founding Software Engineer (Mid–Senior) for our backend-driven platform in San Francisco. You will build and operate scalable backend services that power our core product and agentic AI platform, tackling petabyte-scale data retrieval and 1000-step AI agent workflows in a security-conscious environment.

The role emphasizes ownership, architecture, and building robust systems at scale, with collaboration across AI, security, and product teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated impact on production backend systems.
Hands-on proficiency in Python and experience with distributed systems, large-scale data processing, or cloud infrastructure.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

Engineer core product features by building scalable, secure backend services powering the product.
Build petabyte-scale AI pipelines and data retrieval systems.
Develop backend infrastructure for complex, multi-step AI agents and human–AI collaboration interfaces.
Contribute to architecture and management of cloud infrastructure for high availability and performance.
Ensure security and reliability for handling sensitive data.
