Job summary

Abstract is building the AI operating layer for real estate title and settlement. You will lead three engineers across levels, shaping architecture, code, and team growth, while staying hands-on in production code and AI tooling.

You’ll define technical standards, guide the evaluation and guardrail framework, and partner with the CEO and Head of Product to scale the platform across agencies and states. This is a founder‑level, high-ownership opportunity.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, product-focused
• Demonstrated success as an engineering leader in a startup or high-growth environment
• Experience taking a product from idea to production and scaling
• Shipped production-grade AI workflows with reliability and evals
• Ability to operate across backend, frontend, data pipelines and integrations

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and technical standards for the platform
• Lead system architecture, data models, and platform direction
• Decide what to build, buy, or integrate, and scale prototypes
• Ensure reliability and cost-efficiency as volume grows
• Build and ship AI-powered extraction, classification, and retrieval
• Oversee evaluation and guardrails for AI outputs
• Lead and grow the engineering team; mentor engineers
• Collaborate with product/ops leaders to translate discovery into engineering plans
