Job summary

United Way of Eastern Idaho seeks an experienced Foster Grandparents Program Director to provide day-to-day leadership and full administrative oversight of the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program.

The Director will coordinate with United Way leadership, AmeriCorps Seniors, volunteer stations, schools, and community partners to ensure program quality, compliance, and meaningful service opportunities across rural Idaho.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, education, social work, gerontology, public administration, or a related field; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with federal grants or AmeriCorps programs is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults/seniors and with schools or other organizations that serve children and youth.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and oversee the AmeriCorps Seniors FGP federal grant in accordance with award terms, federal regulations, AmeriCorps Seniors guidance, and United Way policies.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage annual budgets, work plans, expenditures, volunteer stipends, and supporting fiscal documentation in coordination with United Way finance staff.
  • Develop strategies to generate and document the program's non-federal match (grants, donations, sponsorships, partner contributions, in-kind resources).
  • Prepare and submit grant applications, continuations, amendments, progress reports, performance reports, and other documentation through AmeriCorps systems.
  • Maintain audit-ready program, fiscal, personnel, volunteer, and station records; support monitoring visits, audits, and required checks.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate all phases of FGP operations with goals, objectives, and performance measures.
  • Monitor grant deliverables, enrollment, retention goals, service activity, and community outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze program data and feedback to improve quality and outcomes.
  • Recruit, screen, orient, enroll, place, supervise, and recognize Foster Grandparent volunteers in partnership with staff.

  • STATUS: Full-Time
POSITION SUMMARY

The AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) Director provides day-to-day leadership and full administrative oversight of the Foster Grandparent Program. The Director is responsible for federal grant administration, fiscal and program compliance, required match development, volunteer and station management, staff supervision, performance measurement, community partnerships, and continuous program improvement. The role requires active work across rural and remote communities and close coordination with United Way leadership, AmeriCorps Seniors, the Volunteer Coordinator, volunteer stations, community partners, and Foster Grandparent volunteers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administer and oversee the AmeriCorps Seniors FGP federal grant in accordance with award terms, federal regulations, AmeriCorps Seniors guidance, and United Way policies.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage annual budgets, work plans, expenditures, volunteer stipends, and supporting fiscal documentation in coordination with United Way finance staff.
  • Develop and carry out strategies to generate, secure, track, and document the program's required non-federal match, including grants, donations, sponsorships, partner contributions, and allowable in-kind resources.
  • Prepare and submit required grant applications, continuations, amendments, progress reports, performance reports, and other documentation through AmeriCorps electronic systems.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready program, fiscal, personnel, volunteer, and station records; support monitoring visits, audits, compliance reviews, and required National Service Criminal History Checks. Program Operations & Performance
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate all phases of FGP operations, including annual goals, objectives, performance measures, and service strategies.
  • Monitor progress toward grant deliverables, Volunteer Service Years, enrollment and retention goals, service activity, and measurable community outcomes.
  • Collect, review, and analyze program data, satisfaction feedback, and outcome information; use findings to strengthen program quality and recommend improvements.
  • Assess community needs and develop or refine volunteer assignments to ensure meaningful, outcome-based service opportunities. Volunteer & Volunteer Station Management
  • Recruit, screen, orient, enroll, place, support, supervise, and recognize Foster Grandparent volunteers in partnership with program staff and volunteer stations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with volunteer stations; negotiate, review, and update Memoranda of Understanding and volunteer assignment plans.
  • Provide coordinated orientation, in-service training, consultation, and problem-solving support for volunteers and station staff; mediate concerns or conflicts as needed.
  • Assess the appropriateness and performance of volunteer placements and stations and develop new stations in response to community need. Leadership, Staff & Partnerships
  • Directly supervise and provide day‑to‑day support to the Volunteer Coordinator, including establishing priorities and expectations; supporting volunteer recruitment, onboarding, retention, station relationships, documentation, and problem‑solving; and providing coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Select, train, supervise, support, and evaluate additional FGP staff as assigned and maintain clear roles, procedures, and communication that support efficient program operations.
  • Work cooperatively with United Way staff, the Board of Directors, advisory council members, volunteer station staff, schools, child‑serving organizations, senior‑serving partners, and community organizations to obtain resources and strengthen program reach and impact.
  • Represent the program through presentations, meetings, committees, conferences, and community partnerships; coordinate public relations and volunteer recognition efforts with United Way staff.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through AmeriCorps‑required and other relevant training, conferences, professional networks, and current program guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, education, social work, gerontology, public administration, or a related field; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.

Required experience working with older adults/seniors and with schools or other organizations that serve children and youth. The successful candidate must be able to build effective relationships with both populations and the professionals and community partners who support them.

Progressively responsible experience in program/project management, grant administration, volunteer management, community partnership development, or related work. Experience with federal grants or AmeriCorps programs is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, compliance requirements, records, deadlines, data, reporting, and resource development, including grants and donor‑supported funding, with a high level of accuracy and accountability.

Proficiency with standard office technology and the ability to learn grant, reporting, data, and volunteer management systems.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Extensive regional travel is an essential function of this position. The Director must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation and be able to travel regularly to rural and remote communities, volunteer stations, schools, child‑serving sites, meetings, trainings, and program events. Travel may involve significant driving distances and occasional overnight travel.

Ability to complete required background screening and comply with AmeriCorps Seniors and United Way eligibility and conduct requirements.

Ability to occasionally attend early morning, evening, or weekend meetings, trainings, recognition events, or community activities.s is a plus.
