About us
The Humane Society of Central Texas is a nonprofit in Waco working to save animals' lives and connect them with loving homes. Our foster program is the heart of what we do. We don't run a shelter, so dogs and cats live with volunteer foster families until they're adopted. The program is growing fast: we have more than 80 animals in foster care today and a waiting list of people ready to foster.
About the role
We're looking for an organized, people-focused Foster Coordinator to run the program day to day. You'll match animals with the right foster homes, support our volunteers, and track each animal from intake to adoption. If you love animals and are good at keeping lots of moving pieces on track, we'd love to meet you.
What you'll do
Match dogs and cats with foster homes based on each animal's needs and each foster's experience
Schedule intakes, transfers, vet visits and adoption events
Be the main contact for foster volunteers, answering questions, checking in and making sure they feel supported
Review foster applications, manage the waiting list and lead new foster orientations
Coordinate medical and behavioral care with our veterinary partners
Keep accurate records
Track program spending and help with foster-related fundraising and supply drives
What we're looking for
2+ years of experience in animal welfare, rescue, volunteer coordination or program coordination
Strong organization skills and the ability to juggle many cases at once
Friendly, clear communication by phone, email and in person
Comfortable with spreadsheets and database software (experience with Shelterluv or similar is a plus)
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
High school diploma or equivalent; a related degree is a plus
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Work environment
A mix of office work and time in the community: foster homes, veterinary clinics and adoption events
Regular hands-on work with dogs and cats
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Some evenings and weekends for events and urgent placements
Pay and benefits
$20.00 to $22.00 per hour, depending on experience
Full-time, 40 hours per week
Employer-paid health insurance contribution
The chance to make a direct, visible difference for animals in Central Texas
