Job summary

SCO is seeking a Parent Advocate at the Deer Park location to support parents of children in foster care. This part-time role (21 hours) involves counseling families, coordinating with teams, and facilitating family conferences to advance reunification goals.

Responsibilities include documenting cases, collaborating with case planners, and learning Rise-based resources. A NYS driver license and strong communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Must have prior life experience with child welfare or foster care
• Background clearances and fingerprinting required
• Excellent oral and written communication
• Basic computer literacy incl. Microsoft Office
• Bilingual abilities encouraged
• Valid NYS Driver License required
• Knowledge of local welfare services is a plus

Responsibilities

• Build relationships and support parents through foster care challenges and reunification goals
• Participate in Family Team Conferences and related reviews
• Report to Case Planning Supervisor and collaborate with case planners
• Work with Co-Parenting Facilitator and service providers for care outcomes
• Learn Rise tools and resources to inform and support parents
• Contribute to defining roles for parent advocates in agencies
• Support and supervise family time, including transportation when needed
• Complete documentation within 7 business days of events
• Assist with Permanency Hearing reports and court documents as needed
• Support families through Public Assistance and PATH processes
• Attend interdisciplinary meetings and share service information
• Fulfill mandated reporter duties and safety discussions with supervisor
• Coordinate with SCO foster care staff and other agencies
