Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. is seeking an Associate Scientist - Formulation Development to join its veterinary biologics team in the United States.

The role focuses on protein formulation, analytical characterization, and robust formulation development for monoclonal antibodies. You will work with cross-functional groups to advance candidates from discovery to development, perform stress and analytical studies, and maintain thorough documentation in ELNs.

Qualifications

• Experience in chemistry/biochemistry/pharmaceutical labs and handling analytic methods.
• Solid foundation in solution prep, pH, buffers, dilution, and basic physicochemical principles.
• Ability to follow methods and generate reliable quantitative data.
• Strong attention to detail and precise data documentation.
• Basic data visualization and analysis using common software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare buffers, excipients, standards, and samples with accurate weighing and pH adjustment.
• Conduct formulation screening and optimization for monoclonal antibodies.
• Perform stress studies (forced-degradation, stability, freeze-thaw) to assess robustness.
• Carry out routine analytical tests (UV-Vis, protein conc., pH, osmolality, turbidity).
• Evaluate physicochemical stability and aggregation/oxidation of proteins.
• Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment per procedures.
• Analyze data, identify trends, and communicate conclusions with team.
• Document work in electronic lab notebooks and prepare reports and protocols.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams while following safety and data integrity rules.
