Responsibilities
- Communicate regularly with students and their families to identify needs, goals, and expectations for their college admissions journey
- Provide end-to-end counseling, including:
- Regular 60-minute advising sessions via Zoom with each student
- Keep track of deadlines for applications and educational milestones
- Assign relevant tasks between sessions to maximize success
- Respond to inquiries from students and parents
- Manage a cohort of students at various grade levels (9-12, transfer, grad school, gap year), typically between 5 to 10 students
- Support student progress with personalized advising tailored to geographic location, financial needs, academic and extracurricular goals, and long-term plans
- Conduct research to support advising sessions and clarify inquiries
- Lead students in exploring and researching a balanced college list reflecting their interests
- Provide forward-thinking, strategic guidance, staying current on admissions issues
- Mentor students through the writing process for personal statements, essays, résumés, etc., helping identify their narratives and providing actionable feedback
- Review and give feedback on résumés, college essays, and activities lists
- Participate in biweekly meetings with other coaches led by your Lead Coach mentor
- Contribute as an additional reader in Committee Review
- Maintain communication with the Program Director and Director of Client Success regarding student progress
Qualifications of our Ideal Candidate
- Graduated from or worked at a top 50 university or top 20 liberal arts college
- Experience as a college admissions officer is preferred but not mandatory
- Detailed knowledge of the U.S. college admissions process and familiarity with universities and colleges; willingness to stay updated on changes
- Experience in educational or academic support roles (teaching, AmeriCorps, research, etc.)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and students
- Availability during after-school hours, weekends, and possibly in international time zones
- Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Commitment to working with students for at least one year or through the end of the admission cycle
