Job summary

CMC offers roles across our recycling centers, fabrication plants, and steel mills where teamwork and hands-on work drive outcomes. You will grade and inspect inbound material, identify metals, and maintain accurate records while following safety protocols and OSHA guidelines.

The position involves physical labor and outdoor work in a heavy industrial setting. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, may have an apprenticeship, and demonstrates effective communication, reliability,

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year in a heavy industrial environment is preferred but not required.
  • Must communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Adhere to safety standards and practice safe working habits.

Responsibilities

  • Grade and inspect inbound loads to remove dirt, trash, and extraneous materials.
  • Identify and sort various metals for proper processing.
  • Keep records of incoming loads and customers’ materials.
  • Identify hazards on inbound loads and remove hazardous items before processing.
  • Sort, transport, pack, remove, and dispose of materials per regulations.
  • Assist in performing inventory on materials.

What You'll Do
  • Grading and inspecting in-bound loads of material; to include making deductions in loads that have excess such as dirt, trash, and/or plastic
  • Identify and sort various metals
  • Keeping records of incoming loads, specific materials, customers' specific materials
  • Looking for and eliminating hazards from in-coming loads prior to processing, including chemicals, flammable material and explosive items
  • Sort, transport, pack, remove, and dispose of materials as regulated by law
  • Assist in performing inventory on materials
What You'll Need
  • Minimum 1 year working with heavy industrial environment experience preferred but not required
  • Communicate effectively – oral and written
  • Possess a strong work ethic and practice safe working habits
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and steps
  • Must be able to work overtime, either planned or unplanned for emergency situations
  • Must be able and willing to cross train as required
  • Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions to include working in the heat and cold weather
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Perform the rigorous manual labor required by the trade and have a natural ability to work at high elevations
  • Have a good sense of balance
  • Follow the proper OSHA regulations
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program from the local union hall
