Overview
This position operates a forklift machine for all operations. Employee is required to be proficient in the safe handling and transfer of general cargo, all varieties in the terminal, on and off trailers, in and out of vans.
Qualifications
Candidate Requirements:
- Two (2) years of previous experience operating material handling equipment.
- A valid license with acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with Supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, extended hours, nights, holidays, and/or weekends as needed.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Continuous sitting (while driving), grasping, and exercising eye-hand coordination and eye-hand-foot coordination.
- Frequent reaching forward, repetitive foot and wrist motions, and finger dexterity.
- Occasional standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, twisting, reaching overhead, and pinching.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Work in all weather conditions and seasons.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate competency in operating a forklift with 2+ years’ experience, including:
- Safe handling of all commodities.
- Operating with diverse attachments for different commodities.
- Operating in warehouse and terminal environments.
- Proper mounting/dismounting with three points of contact.
- Proper startup/shutdown procedures, including seatbelt use, lowering blades, and setting brakes.
- Proper use of controls (clutch, inching, tilt, lift, attachments, steering).
- Proper stacking and depositing loads safely, approaching loads squarely, stacking straight, and at safe heights.
- Loading/unloading trailers, vans, railcars, containers, etc., safely and efficiently.
- Ensuring safety checks, maintenance, and communication regarding machine issues.
- Following safety policies, including company “Stop Work Authority”.
- Maintaining awareness of surroundings at all times.
- Reviewing shipments on arrival and reporting damages.
- Loading cargo in appropriate containers or trailers as directed.
- Performing additional duties, possibly including operating other equipment.
