Job summary

Commercial Metals Company in Ashland, VA seeks a Forklift Operator to move materials, load and unload, and support yard and production operations. You will operate forklifts, transport raw materials, and help maintain safety and efficiency on site.

The role requires a strong safety mindset, ability to work outdoors in varying weather, and overtime as needed. A high school diploma or GED is required; forklift certification is preferred or obtainable after hire.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating forklifts or similar mobile equipment in manufacturing or outdoor yards.
  • Safely move and stage large concrete products.
  • Strong safety mindset and adherence to procedures.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and identify maintenance needs.
  • Attention to detail in daily tasks and documentation.
  • Read and follow work instructions, safety procedures, and shipping docs.
  • Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to work independently or with a team in a fast-paced setting.
  • Reliable attendance and willingness to overtime as production demands grow.
  • Outdoor work in varying weather, dust, and noise; certify forklift when hired.

Responsibilities

  • Load, unload, stage, and move products safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance checks.
  • Report malfunctions, damage, or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Support production schedules by ensuring materials are available as needed.
  • Assist with inventory control, product staging, and yard organization.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area following environmental standards.
  • Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement programs.

What You'll Do
  • Operate forklifts in compliance with company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Transport raw materials, finished products, and production supplies between manufacturing, storage, and shipping areas.
  • Load, unload, stage, and move products safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform routine maintenance checks to ensure safe operation.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, product damage, or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Support production schedules by ensuring materials and finished products are available when needed.

What You'll Need
  • Experience operating forklifts or other mobile equipment in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, or outdoor yard environment preferred.
