Job summary

ProTrans is seeking a Forklift Material Handler to load, unload, and move materials within the center, cross dock, and yard using forklift and related equipment. The role involves reading work orders, inspecting items, and preparing shipments with accuracy and safety in mind.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, and either a short track record or training in material handling. English literacy is required with bilingual Spanish a plus; must pass the forklift proficiency test and

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 6 months related experience or training or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. English reading/writing required; bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.
• Must pass the ProTrans Forklift Performance Test.

Responsibilities

• Reads work orders or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
• Receives items for shipment, inspects identity, quantity, and condition; checks for damage and segregation of items requiring special handling.
• Opens containers as directed by work instructions or supervisor.
• Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand or with forklift or other handling equipment.
• Loads materials into carrier vehicles and secures loads to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Completes receiving and shipping documents per ProTrans specifications using a mobile scanner.
• Identifies all shipments by proper marking and labeling, including special handling instructions.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work environment; conducts daily safety and equipment checks.
• Operates machinery such as banding, taping, and sealing.
• Follows all safety procedures and contributes to center safety improvements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
• Receives items for shipment, inspects visually for identity, quantity, and condition. Checks for obvious damage and segregates items requiring special handling.
• Opens containers as directed by work instructions or supervisor.
• Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand or with forklift or other handling equipment.
• Loads materials into carrier vehicles and installs loading tools to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Completes receiving and shipping documents accurately and completely via ProTrans specifications.
• Completes receiving and shipping activities with use of mobile scanner
• Identify all shipments by proper marking and labeling, including special handling instructions.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work environment
• Conduct safety and equipment checks daily.
• Operates machinery such as banding, taping, and sealing.
• Follow all safety procedures. Actively works to improve individual and center safety record.
• Provides ideas or feedback to identify continual improvement initiatives to enhance the performance of the position, team, and company.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write in English is required. Bilingual English/Spanish is desired in some centers.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

Able to use scanning equipment.
