Job summary

Shultz Steel LLC is seeking a supervisor to direct the crews and floor operation of heavy-duty hydraulic forging presses and manipulators. You will bend, form, and straighten metal extrusions, forgings, rings and bars with minimal supervision.

The role requires deep knowledge of hydraulic forge equipment, ability to read blueprints and shop travelers, and coordination with engineering for new forgings. On-site, safety and quality procedures are mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret documents like operating and maintenance instructions
  • Ability to prepare and interpret basic production reports and SPC data
  • Knowledge of safety rules and company policies in a manufacturing setting
  • Capable of directing die changes safely and efficiently
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Position Summary:

Directs the crews and floor operation of heavy-duty computer controlled open die and/or closed die hydraulic forging presses and manipulators to bend, form, and straighten metal extrusions, formed shapes, forgings, rings and bars by performing the following duties with minimal supervision.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. In performing functions, duties or tasks, employees are required to know and follow safe work practices, and to be aware of Company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations. All functions, duties or tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and to be performed in conformance with applicable Company policies and procedures. In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of Company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representatives.

Fully versed in the entire operations involved with the operation of the hydraulic forging presses and auxiliary systems and/or forge equipment in place at Shultz Steel. The ability to direct die changes in a safe and efficient manner.

Know the roles and relationships of each member of the press and/or hammer forge crew and where they are and their responsibilities during the operation of the presses, mills and/or hammers.

Capable of organizing and affecting the requirements of the shop traveler, work instructions, drawings and SSFP's; training and organizing the crew to manufacture forgings in accordance with all company policies and quality procedures.

Ability to work with Engineering during manufacture of new and/or complex forgings.

Knowledge and ability to forge all types of materials, shapes and sizes and thoroughly familiar with their characteristics with regard to forging.

Ability to read and understand shop travelers, operating procedures, blueprints, and instructions.

Knowledge of recording forge data for future use, complete production reports and SPC documentation.

Reports damage or any other required maintenance of the equipment to the Maintenance Department and the Forge Supervisor.

Safely operates all floor manipulators and forklifts. Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Above average eye/hand coordination. Must be able to work well with others.
Experience & Education
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $20.00 to $20.00 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
