Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. is seeking a skilled general operator in South Gate, CA for final inspection and surface conditioning of forged parts. You will use a hand grinding machine, measure tolerances, and ensure parts meet specifications before shipment.

This role emphasizes accuracy, adherence to instructions, and maintenance of a clean, safe work area. A high school-level education or equivalent is acceptable, with potential for additional benefits and on-site training.

Qualifications

  • Reads two- and three-syllable words and recognizes similarities in word sequences.
  • Prints and speaks simple sentences.
  • Performs two-digit arithmetic and multiplications/divisions with 10s and 100s.
  • Applies common sense in following written or oral instructions.
  • Deals with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Performs final surface inspection and conditioning of forged parts prior to shipment.

  • Operates hand grinding machine and checks for defects or machine issues.
  • Measures part dimensions to ensure grinding accuracy.
  • Removes burrs, edges, rust, or scale from parts.

Job description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs final surface inspection and conditioning of forged parts prior to shipment to customer.
  • Applies in process identification to products per instructions.
  • Conditions surface of in process parts.
  • Operates hand grinding machine and observes operation to detect part defects or machine malfunction. Changes wheels and parts as trained.
  • Measure’s part dimensions to determine accuracy of grinding operation.
  • Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from part.
  • Maintains work area daily to be clean and free of safety hazards.
  • Performs other routine duties.
Required Skills
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Experience & Education
  • Less than high school education; or up to one-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $19.00 to $26.00 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors.

For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter .

  • Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year.
  • Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays.
  • Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance.
  • Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
