Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. in South Gate, CA is seeking a skilled die polisher to finish forging dies and tooling by washing, scraping, polishing, grinding, and sanding under minimal supervision.

The role requires knowledge of die polishing, inspection procedures, and the ability to read and follow safety and maintenance instructions, with experience in PPE and heavy tooling. Eligible for company benefits and a quarterly bonus plan.

Responsibilities

  • Polish, grind, sand, and shop surfaces using appropriate tools.
  • Inspect dies for wear, cracks and defects; document condition.
  • Select abrasive tools based on operation and dimensions.
  • Operate grinders and hand tools to smooth surfaces and remove machining marks.
  • Support other tooling-related duties as required.

Job description

Thorough knowledge which allows employee to wash, scrape, polish, grind and sand contoured metal surfaces to finish forging dies, trimmers and other tooling by performing the following duties, with minimal supervision.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of die polishing and grinding techniques.
  • Performs liquid penetrant inspection of dies to determine wear, cracks and other defects. Documents die condition.
  • Identifies defects and die wear; identifies dies with job number and function.
  • Selects abrasive tools according to operation and dimensions specified.
  • Manipulates powered hand grinder to remove bead, grind curved surfaces to specified radii, remove machining marks, and smooth die surfaces; sand surfaces of cavity and gutters to facilitate flow of metal during forging; manipulates hand tools, such as files, stones, and emery cloth, to smooth surfaces.
  • Supports other Tooling related duties as required.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates or Licenses

Must possess Shultz Steel Company certifications in the following: Overhead Crane Operator and Mobile Equipment (Forklift).

Experience & Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation & Benefits
  • For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $21.00 to $21.00 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors.
  • For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter .
  • Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year.
  • Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays.
  • Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance.
  • Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
