Job summary

The North Carolina Forest Service is seeking a Forestry Technician I (S) to assist with forestry services, landowner requests, and wildfire prevention in North Carolina. The role involves promoting tree care in urban settings and supporting emergency responses, with typical hours 8–5, M–F, and occasional after-hours during fire danger periods.

Residency discussions occur at interview. A Ranger Training is required after hire, and a State-owned vehicle is provided to support daily duties.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of forest management, wildfire suppression or GPS/GIS software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to accomplish goals.
• Self-motivated, team player, and able to remain calm under stress.

Responsibilities

• Assist with servicing landowner requests for forestry assistance.
• Promote forestry education through interactions with partners, schools and groups.
• Support wildfire suppression planning and emergency response activities.
• Occasional overnight travel and after-hours readiness during fire danger periods.
