Job description

Overview

Crew lead responsible for overseeing a small team of experienced sawyers. Supervises a crew performing wildfire mitigation and education projects, environmental restoration, and landscape maintenance. Responsible for ensuring safety and compliance, and representing the program through community outreach and public education initiatives.


The typical schedule for this position is 8 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Temporary Position, anticipated end date in early May 2027.


Responsibilities


  • Exercising direct supervision over temporary staff during daily work.

  • Performing wildfire mitigation and environmental restoration, including tree removal and biomass management.

  • Operating a variety of light equipment, including chainsaws, brush chippers, wood splitters, etc.

  • Participating in community events, meetings, and programs promoting services and building relationships with residents, businesses, and other agencies.

  • Completing logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.

  • Managing and monitoring crew safety and provides lead accountability and support for the crew.

What We're Looking For


  • Certification as a S212 (Wildland Chainsaw Certification) Feller A required by date of hire, Feller B preferred.

  • Possession of First Aid certification required by date of hire, Wilderness First Aid preferred.

  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire, required.

  • Knowledge, skills, and experience implementing safe work practices, conservation techniques, and the principles of supervision and leadership.

  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.

  • Experience working in a team environment among a diverse group.
