Job summary

The DNR is seeking one Natural Resources Forestry Specialist Intermediate to be stationed in Blackduck, MN. This role focuses on forest resource management across sub-programs at the Area level, under limited supervision, with opportunities to lead and train others.

Responsibilities include administering fire prevention, managing invasive species, using GIS/4Trees for data and maps, and engaging in wildfire prevention and suppression activities. Travel and field work are expected.

Qualifications

  • Forestry fieldwork experience across multiple concentrations.
  • Ability to obtain FFT2 NWCG qualification within 6 months.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and task assignment abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with partners and the public.
  • Knowledge of multi-use forestry concepts for wildlife, recreation, and wood use.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Fire Prevention Sub-program tasks within the area.
  • Direct Invasive Species Sub-program tasks within the area.
  • Use GIS and 4Trees to input data, perform analysis, and create maps.
  • Engage in wildfire prevention and suppression activities.
  • Review burn permit requests and approve/deny based on fire weather & science.
  • Provide fire training to foresters, emergency responders, and fire departments.
  • Participate in outreach events to promote sustainable forestry and wildfire prevention.
  • Operate vehicles and field equipment as needed.
