Job summary

Westervelt Forestry is offering a 2027 Summer Internship Program across multiple Southeast sites. This hands-on internship will immerse you in timberland management, harvest planning, reforestation, GIS applications, and operational decision making alongside seasoned foresters and land managers.

You’ll gain practical experience from field operations while learning about sustainable forestry and future career opportunities within the organization.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field.
• Willingness to relocate to one of the internship sites for the summer.
• Strong work ethic, adaptability, and interest in fieldwork.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist foresters with harvest planning, contract administration, and field inspections.
• Participate in road layout, maintenance planning, and infrastructure assessments.
• Support silvicultural activities including site preparation, planting, herbicide applications, and stand evaluations.
• Gain exposure to nursery and seed orchard operations that support long-term forest sustainability.
• Assist with timber inventory, data collection, and GIS mapping projects.
• Monitor and implement Forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs) to support responsible land stewardship.
• Work safely in a variety of field conditions across active timberland operations.
