Job summary

The Westervelt Company offers a Forestry Internship in the Southeast, with multiple locations including Tuscaloosa and Thomasville, AL. The program provides hands-on forest management experience, exposure to harvest planning, GIS mapping, and BMPs, and opportunities to connect with industry professionals.

Interns will work alongside foresters and land managers, learn about reforestation, timber inventory, and silvicultural systems, and may be considered for future full-time opportunities upon

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field.
• Willingness to relocate to internship sites for the summer.
• Strong work ethic, adaptability, and interest in fieldwork.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist foresters with harvest planning, contract administration, and field inspections.
• Participate in road layout, maintenance planning, and infrastructure assessments.
• Support silvicultural activities including site preparation, planting, herbicide applications, and stand evaluations.
• Gain exposure to nursery and seed orchard operations that support long-term forest sustainability.
• Assist with timber inventory, data collection, and GIS mapping projects.
• Monitor and implement Forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs) to support responsible land stewardship.
• Work safely in a variety of field conditions across active timberland operations.
