Job summary

Ohio Department of Natural Resources is seeking energetic, passionate people for the Equipment Operator 4 role in the Division of Forestry, based at Hocking State Forest in Hocking County, Rockbridge, OH. The position requires a valid CDL A with no restrictions and involves operating heavy equipment for construction and maintenance, plus wildfire support.

Starting pay is $23.28 per hour with increases up to $26.54 per hour over 4.5 years, plus potential COLA and longevity pay.

Qualifications

• Formal education in arithmetic incl. fractions, decimals & percentages; reading, writing & speaking English.
• 6 months training or 6 months experience in operation of heavy construction equipment (e.g., 10 ton crawler, large cranes, 10 ton backhoe, 18 ton dozer, gradall) & safety practices; valid CDL.
• For wildfire program, must complete Basic Firefighter Introduction to Fire Behavior Course (S-130/S-190).
• Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy motorized equipment to complete a variety of construction & maintenance functions.
• Perform wildfire support (e.g., forest fire line construction, trails, culverts, roads & bridges).
• Perform general maintenance & repairs on equipment & buildings/grounds.
• Lead worker with equipment operation.
• Help maintain/repair paved & gravel forest roads, hiking trails, bridle trails, APV trails, bridges & culverts.
