Qualifications

• Associate degree in Forest Technology recognized by SAF or a Bachelor's in forestry program accredited by SAF.
• Must have a current license as a registered professional forester or forestry technician or in the process of obtaining licensure.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must take and pass a physical examination within six months of employment; annual follow-up exams.
• Must become Special Natural Resources Police Officer at earliest opportunity and maintain this commission.

Responsibilities

• Manage forest areas in Roane and Jackson Counties.
• Lead fire prevention, preparedness, and suppression activities.
• Deliver fire prevention messages to media, groups, schools, and individuals.
• Recruit, train, and check equipment of forest fire wardens, patrollers, and firefighters.
• Supervise forest fire suppression efforts and investigate fires.
• Conduct spot checks and investigations on logging operations; assist logger training and logger compliance with Sediment Control Act.
• Provide technical assistance and advice to landowners; prepare stewardship plans; review insect and disease reports.
• Assist other agencies and employees as needed; perform other duties as assigned.
