Job summary

The North Carolina Forest Service is hiring a Forestry Technician I (S) to support forest protection, resource management, and environmental education for North Carolina residents and landowners. The role involves field work, program delivery, and coordination with volunteers and partner agencies.

Typical duties include assisting in wildfire suppression, maintaining trails and facilities, implementing the forest management plan, and contributing to environmental education programs.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in forest management or environmental/natural science, or HS/GED with two years related experience.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of forest management or wildfire suppression.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in wildfire suppression efforts and may be part of an Incident Management Team.
  • Designs, maintains, and interprets forest trails, picnic areas, buildings and exhibits.
  • Coordinates volunteers, community service workers, and other personnel; enforces rules and regulations.
  • Delivers forestry/environmental education programs to schools, groups, and the public; supports environmental education workshops.
  • Contributes to the forest management plan implementation, including prescribed burning, timber activities, water quality, and wildlife.
