Job summary

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a Forest Ranger (Wildland Firefighter) to perform forest fire prevention, detection and suppression activities and to provide technical forestry services to landowners and industry representatives.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver license, good physical condition, and compliance with Florida statutes including fingerprinting and background checks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 18 years of age.
  • Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor relating to certification or perjury, or a felony or crime punishable by imprisonment.
  • Submit a fingerprint card and processing fee.
  • Good moral character as determined by investigation.
  • Be in good physical condition as prescribed by NFPA 1582.
  • Non-user of tobacco or tobacco products for at least one year prior to application.

Responsibilities

  • This work is in forest fire prevention, detection, suppression and presuppression, providing technical forestry services to landowners and industries.
  • Operates and maintains fire suppression equipment and vehicles; investigates wildfire causes and gathers evidence.
  • Conducts fire detection, inspections of burn authorizations and public wildfire education programs.
  • Provides presuppression assistance to private landowners and assists in various land management activities.
  • Maintains public facilities and equipment for state lands and performs other duties as assigned.
