Job summary

Oregon State University is recruiting 1–2 part-time Forest Management Student Assistant positions for the OSU Research Forests. The role will expose students to all aspects of forest management, including harvest unit design, layout, contract administration, and log sale analysis.

Working primarily in forested terrain, the position offers hands-on experience and skill development aligned with NACE competencies.

Qualifications

• Must be academically enrolled in a college or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• Undergraduate student: 6 credit hours per term
• Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

Responsibilities

• Harvest Unit Design utilizing lidar, canopy height models, stream classifications, visual aesthetics
• Harvest Unit layout planning using classroom-learned tools and methods
• Contract Administration on diverse harvest types (e.g., Cut-to-Length Thinning, Regeneration Harvests)
• Log Sale analysis to identify best value products and return for OSU
