Job summary

OSU Research Forests in Oregon seek 1–2 Forest Management Student Assistants for up to 24 hours per week. You will gain exposure to harvest unit design, lidar-based assessments, contract administration, and log sale analysis as part of forest management activities.

The position offers field-heavy work (80%), with office tasks (20%), located at Peavy Arboretum Road in Corvallis. Flexible scheduling supports student commitments; anticipated start is 2027-01-04.

Qualifications

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard.

Responsibilities

• Harvest Unit Design utilizing lidar, canopy height models, stream classifications, visual aesthetics, etc.
• Harvest Unit layout utilizing the tools and skills learned in the classroom
• Contract Administration on Cut-to-Length Thinning, Variable Retention Harvests, Regeneration Harvests, Restoration Harvests, Pre-commercial Thinning, Planting, Herbicide Applications, Cultural Resources
• Log Sale analysis to identify best value of products with best return to OSU
