Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Agriculture & Consumer Services is seeking a Forestry Supervisor I to lead forest management initiatives, fire protection programs and training within the NC Forest Service. This exempt role includes overseeing budgets and personnel, with telework options available as management permits.

Ideal candidates bring SAF forestry education or NC Forester registration plus several years of forestry experience, and strong leadership and communication skills for coordination

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry from SAF accredited institution and four years of related professional forestry experience; or registered Forester in NC with four years of related forestry experience; or equivalent education/experience.
• Knowledge of forest management, silviculture and regeneration practices.
• Knowledge of wildland fire suppression strategy and tactics or prescribed burning.
• Knowledge of environmental rules and regulations.
• Experience training others in forestry-related subjects or matters.
• Ability to develop good working relationships, be self-motivated, service oriented and have strong leadership and written/oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Directs and coordinates work on Districts’ Remote Access Weather Stations and National Fire Danger Rating programs.
• Oversees Community Wildfire Protection Planning and fuel mitigation projects.
• Responds to wildland fires and other all-risk incidents within the district as part of ICS.
• Manages administrative duties including personnel hiring, performance management, purchasing and budgeting for the Forestation program.
