Job summary

The North Carolina Forest Service is seeking a Forestry Technician III (S) in Jackson County. This full-time role oversees fire and all-risk training, equipment readiness, facility maintenance, and purchasing across the district, providing technical guidance in fire control and coordinating incident management at district/state levels.

The position requires an Associate’s degree in forest management or a related science and five years of forestry experience, or an equivalent combination.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in forest management or an environmental or natural science curriculum and five years of related forestry experience; or an equivalent combination.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee fire/all-risk training, equipment readiness, facility maintenance/improvement, and purchasing across the district.
  • Provide technical expertise in fire control, develop fire strategies and tactics, and support law enforcement activities.
  • Lead or assist with incident management teams (Type 3/Type 2 IMTs) and serve in ICS roles at district/state levels.
  • Coordinate with county personnel on fire suppression duties and ensure quality of fire reports.
