Job summary

Pennsylvania State Police is seeking a Forensic Scientist 2 to apply advanced toxicology analyses in a state-of-the-art laboratory. You will evaluate evidence, perform precise testing, and support investigations with accurate results.

The role focuses on specimen analysis, instrument operation, data evaluation, and quality activities, with opportunities to provide expert testimony in legal proceedings. Telework is not offered, and schedule is 37.5 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Two years of professional lab work experience in chemical, physical or biological analysis of criminal evidence, or a bachelor’s degree with 16 college credits in chemistry.
• Two years of full-time toxicology work experience performing instrumental analysis and casework in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab.
• PA residency waiver for this title.

Responsibilities

• Receive and examine biological samples for forensic toxicological evaluation.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses for alcohol and drugs using specialized techniques and instrumentation.
• Operate GC, LC-MS/MS, and LC-qTOF to complete testing tasks.
• Review chromatographic and spectral data to determine significance of laboratory findings.
• Identify and assess analytical issues that may influence testing outcomes.
• Participate in laboratory quality assurance tasks, method development, and documentation.
• Provide expert testimony explaining analytical methods and findings in court.
