Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Justice’s State Crime Laboratory is seeking a Forensic Scientist II to perform casework on toxicology evidence, prepare detailed reports, and provide expert testimony. The role requires strong lab experience and the ability to handle high-stakes court testimony in a regulated environment.

The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in chemistry/toxicology/forensic science with related concentration and two years of bench-level experience, plus ABFT certification

Qualifications

• Four years of Forensic Toxicology Laboratory experience.
• Experience with Forensic Advantage Information Management System.
• Certification by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology.
• Experience with Tandem Mass Spectrometry and Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry.
• Experience testifying as an expert in the field of Forensic toxicology.

Responsibilities

• Performs casework on toxicology evidence from DWI and non-DWI investigations.
• Prepares written reports of the results of analyses.
• Provides expert testimony in court on analysis results.
• Overtime may be required due to laboratory needs.
