Job summary

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) seeks a forensic information technician to evaluate database samples and oversee NCIC-related records. The role requires a relevant degree or equivalent experience and basic computer skills.

You will handle expungement reviews, documentation, and routine lab tasks with a focus on accuracy and integrity. The position is based at the Forensic Services Laboratory in Columbia, SC, with normal business hours and opportunities to train and advance within

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science or criminal justice, or an associate's degree with 5 years of forensics or legal experience, or obtain one within 90 days of posting date.
• Basic working knowledge of computers and commonly utilized programs.
• Must have effective communication skills.
• Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and employ sound time management and organizational practices.
• Must be able to maintain NCIC certification.
• There is no residency requirement; report to the Forensic Services Laboratory in Columbia, SC during normal business hours.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate database samples for entry in the offender information management system and manage NCIC-related records.
• Review expungement requests for completeness and accuracy; verify eligibility.
• Perform quality control, safety, and general lab duties to keep the unit efficient.
• Conduct inventory and assist with procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Provide training and maintain professional communication with supervisors, agency personnel, and legal community.
