Job summary

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is seeking a Forensic Technician in the DNA Database Department. You will process database samples, handle expungement requests, and support forensic scientists with administrative tasks to ensure smooth department operations.

Responsibilities include evaluating samples and expungement requests, conducting routine quality control, inventory, and training new staff, while maintaining professional communication with law enforcement partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science or criminal justice; or associate’s with 5 years forensics/legal experience or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Must have basic working knowledge of computers and commonly used programs.
• Must have effective communication skills and be detail oriented.

Responsibilities

• Process database samples for entry in the offender information management system.
• Evaluate expungement requests for completeness and accuracy; verify eligibility.
• Perform quality control, safety, and administrative tasks to keep the unit running.
• Conduct inventory and assist with procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Provide training to new employees, interns, or external customers; maintain professional communication.
