Job summary

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is seeking a DNA Analyst/Criminalist for the Forensic Services - DNA Casework Department. The role requires a bachelor’s degree and a basic understanding of DNA and serology analysis, with integrity and professionalism.

Duties include conducting serological and DNA analyses, maintaining chain of custody, delivering reports, and providing expert testimony in various courts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, forensic science or related field.
• Ability to analyze evidence and prepare scientific reports.
• Must be able to testify effectively in court.
• Must obtain Class III law enforcement officer certification.

Responsibilities

• Conduct serological and DNA analyses on evidence with defined protocols.
• Interpret results and prepare formal written reports for courts.
• Receive evidence, maintain chain of custody, and preserve samples.
• Provide expert testimony in federal, state, and local courts.
• Coordinate training and supervise others as directed by supervisor.
• Perform research, validation, quality control, and safety tasks.
